If it says someone else, this shows you why — and hands you every fix we find, free. Not the first three. All of them.

Do you use exactly the same business name everywhere on your website?

Use one spelling of your business name everywhere on your site: not “Smith & Co”, “Smith and Company” and “Smith Co.” on different pages. Google asks for a consistent site name, and Microsoft’s Bing guidelines tell site owners to use clear and consistent naming for organizations. We found no test showing ChatGPT, Perplexity or Claude treat it differently, so think of it as basic housekeeping.

They’re not better than you. The machine is just surer about them.

Ask ChatGPT for the best [what you do] near you and it builds the most confident answer it can from everywhere your business appears.

It picks the safer name. That’s the whole mechanism.

Google

Primary source

Google published a page in May 2026 saying most of these hacks don’t work — its words, not ours: many of them aren’t effective or supported by how Google Search actually works.

Google, — primary source.

ChatGPT

Not covered

And that page is about Google, not ChatGPT, which is the part most people quoting it leave out.

Perplexity, Claude or Copilot

Not covered

Google’s guidance doesn’t settle how Perplexity, Claude or Copilot weigh anything. Where we know the difference, we tell you which one we mean. Where nobody knows, we say that too.

Three of our own numbers turned out to be wrong.

Three numbers we used to print failed our own test: who measured it, on how many, and when. If we’ll do that to our own claims, you can guess how we feel about the ones nobody checks.

Corrections log
  1. Three statistics on Module 1’s opening screen

Removed: “5x better”, “61% of clicks” and “98.8%”. The 5x has no primary study behind it at all.

And two things nobody can tell you, including us.

The two largest studies disagree on what drives AI citations. We don’t know which is right. Nor does anyone who says they do.

What the free Check doesn’t do.

It asked whether you’d tested what ChatGPT says about you. It didn’t test it.

What the 25 questions asked

  • Whether you’d tested what ChatGPT says about your business.
  • Whether you know which competitor gets named instead of you.
  • Your website, against twenty-three things that matter.

What was never checked

  • What ChatGPT says about your business.
  • Which competitor gets named instead of you.
  • It scored your website — carefully.

A questionnaire about your own site can only ever tell you about your own site.

Is this just SEO with a new name?

Largely, yes. Anyone calling it a brand-new discipline is selling something. What’s different is narrow: which sources get quoted, how consistent your details are, and whether a machine is sure enough about you to name you.

Will this guarantee AI starts recommending me?

No, and no honest tool can promise that. It shows where you stand and what’s most likely holding you back.

How do I know you’re not the thing you’re warning me about?

You don’t, yet. Check us: every figure here names its source, sample and date, and we publish what we’ve withdrawn. Start there.

I already pay someone for SEO. Do I need this?

Maybe not. Run the free Check and take the result to them. Either they’ve handled it, or you now have a specific list to ask about.

What happens to my email address?

If you ask for the PDF, we send it and four emails over the next week, each with an unsubscribe link.
